Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Korolyov (also spelled Korolev), the father of the Russian space program. During his Cold War tenure, his identity was kept secret, so he never received the accolades that his Western counterparts did. He was responsible for the early successes of the Space Race, like the Sputnik and Vostok programs.
